Being Safe

Skill: Physical development helps fine tune both your child’s gross, and fine motor skills. It is also very important in strengthening muscles, controlling the body and co-ordination. This activity Being safe, aims to teach your child about using tools and equipment safely.

  1. Children need to learn to use ‘small world’
    tools and equipment safely
Show your child how to use a pair of
    ‘safe’ scissors.
Let them have a go at cutting a piece of
paper in the shape of a circle or square.
Give them some different types of paper
to cut e.g. shiny, tissue, coloured,
    newspaper.
Make an abstract collage using the pieces.

As your child gets older allow them to
use more tools and materials safely
    and with control.
