Wrapping Presents

Skill: The activities in this section will help your child with solving simple numerical problems relating to counting, measuring, money, shape, movement and graphs. This activity Wrapping presents, helps your child show an interest in shape and space, by understanding variations in size. You can also use this as an opportunity to use mathematical language.

  1. You will need:
Three ‘gift’ boxes of varying sizes – one big, one small and one
medium. You will also need string, sticky tape, scissors and
some wrapping paper, brown parcel paper will do.
You will need to cut three different pieces of wrapping paper, one for
each of your presents. You will also need to cut three lengths of string
to go around each present. Then let your child look at the different
presents and the wrapping paper. Ask them which present is the
biggest and which is the smallest etc…
Then get your child to match which sheet of wrapping paper
goes with which present. Once they have worked out
which sheet of wrapping paper goes with which present,
then let them wrap it. Younger children may need some
help with folding the paper and tying the string.
