Tidy Up Boxes

Skill: Gaining self awareness is extremely important in a child. These activities explore their emotional boundaries, help your child to feel safe and secure, and help them to recognise their own personal characteristics and preferences. This activity "Tidy Up Boxes", allows your child to use their curiosity and drive, to explore things around them.

  1. You will need a selection of small boxes, these could be plastic boxes or
cardboard – they need to be big and sturdy enough to tidy away groups
    of your child’s toys.
Then label each box with any photograph or drawing of a group of toys.
For example, cars, dolls, crayons, animals, dressing up clothes etc…
Then after your child has been playing with their toys, encourage them to
put them into the right box. Although, they are learning to tidy up the trick
is not to make it feel like a chore! Make it a fun experience and praise your
child whenever they put the right toy into the right box. This will increase
their independence and teach them that everything has its right place.
Additionally, learning to tidy away toys is important for their development
because research has shown that children learn best playing with a few
toys at a time not when all their toys are spread out over the floor.
    Follow up ideas
You could write their name and the name of the group of the toys
on the box. This will encourage your child to recognise letter
    and word formations.
